Would America Be America?

Last Sunday, I was asked a question by a man who’s been dead for over a century, but it was the most intriguing question I’ve been asked in a long time.  I was taken aback by the urgency of the question posed; in light of the recent events throughout the world, I was moved.  A man, the first Black man to graduate from Harvard, whom could not have concieved of an Oprah Winfrey or a Barack and Michelle Obama asked a question of which it’s relevance is just finding it’s footing.

“Would America still be America without its Negro peoples?” – W.E.B. DuBois

The answer is of course no.  The ideals that America was founded on would never have been realized without our footwork and our passions toward change.  Change, it seems, is still our mantra.

Without our musical and spiritual contributions, America would lose it’s swagger and cease to be the artistic and powerful leader she has become.

I have never felt more American than within the last 2 years, and I know that feeling doesn’t just come from the election of our President which I fought so hard for.  I hope that everyone who can make it to The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA (yes, the one where Barack gave his infamous speech on race) between now and May 3rd, 2009, come down and experience the America I Am exhibit.  Experience a piece of our full and total AMERICAN history.

Someone I know took pix, I will post what I have been sent rite about now… Continue reading ‘Would America Be America?’

YES WE CAN!!!!

I stand in wonderment of what we can do…

I was there and I am still in a state of shock and awe.

First of all, I must say, that as a resident of West Philly all my life, I have never been more proud of my ‘hood, not even of Will Smith (whom I LOVE).  On Saturday, October 11, 2008, I got to see the next President of the United States standing on one of the roughest corners in my city, speaking to the hearts and minds of the people.  Yes, I was moved to tears…

As I write this, I am watching CNN, getting my daily fix, and the story is about how race will affect this election, and whether or not there are White voters who will lie and say that they will vote for Obama but will ultimately break the other way.  I tell you this; I have NEVER seen, or thought I would see, hundreds of White people standing at the intersection of

52nd & Locust street in the heart of West Philadelphia, in front of the historic Bushfire Theater, smiling and chatting with people that I’m sure never imagined they would be supporting a Black man for President of the United States.  As I watched Barack speak, I was overcome with emotion.  But that’s not what moved me to tears. Okay, I have a soft spot for Li’l Miss Rih-Rih…  I admit that her songs take me back to the early 80’s and some of the crazy pop songs I used to love…

And I LOVE CB…  I mean, if I was sure he could handle awwlladis, he could get it…  And his music is pretty hot…  Tho this new shit with the vocoders is going a bit far…

But I have to ask, partially because I also liked Fefe Dobson

DID RIHANNA STEAL HER SWAG???

I kinda think she did, especially after comparing these pix…

And damn Rih, you got Chris to get the MATCHING TATT???  it MUST be platinum…

Here is Fefe Dobson's star tatt on her neck...

WTFeezy???

Okay, now what makes this so crazy is that the young man seems so sincere…  I’m sure this won’t make it to the CNN reels, but please make sure the buzz on this one is heard!!!

I guess we’ll only know if the baby comes out with a li’l tan…

I have a question for the ladies…

•September 8, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Am I wrong in believing that John McCain only picked Sarah Palin because she is a small-town woman and he believes that women will look at her and go, “Hey, she’s got a vagina just like me!!!  COUNT ME IN!!!”  Sarah Palin apparently isn’t even sure what a VP does…  more on that after the leap…

Okay, yes, as a woman I have paid close attention to the fine line that has been tread in this election cycle.  Hell, being Black, I’ve had to do the same thing so come November I’ll be exhausted.  But, I think I am MORE offended that the GOP is playing on our hearts.  I would love to see a woman in the Whitehouse, just as much as I’d like to see a Black person.  It endears the position of Commander in Chief to us when we can look at them and identify a piece of ourselves.  Continue reading ‘I have a question for the ladies…’

You know, us DIE-HARD Eagles fans never really know what to expect on opening day…  Will we have a blazing victory, or suffer the sting of defeat…  I mean hey, it IS Philly (I can say that, I’m a native AND a fan)…

2day, tho, there were no teeth grinding in Philly.  We are the champions!!!!  And not only are we the champions, but we did it with a MONSTER blowout over St. Louis.  38-3.  WTF is THAT???  E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES baby!!!

Sheldon Brown is a BEAST!!!
